When attempting to open the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell, you may see the following error if your account does not have the “SP Shell Admin” privilege:

The local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets with FeatureDependencyId are not registered.

To resolve this issue, log in to one of the SharePoint 2010 farm servers as the installation account that was used to create the farm. Open the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell using that account. You can then give the local BUILTIN\Administrators group SP Shell Admin privileges using the following command:

Add-SPShellAdmin -username builtin\Administrators
